Celebrating A Family Of Wonderful Moms

Today being Mother’s Day – it seemed the perfect time to take a moment and honor all of the Moms that do so much for so many!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Both Mary and I were very fortunate to have great Moms that showed us how to live by their own example.  They both worked extremely hard, they both gardened, canned, and of course – made home-made meals that were the backbone of our growing up. Gee – I wonder where we got our love of the garden and canning from? 🙂

There are some things you just cannot appreciate about your mom until you are older.  Like how much patience they have, how much they care, even when you were too young and dumb to have thought they didn’t 🙂 – and how much they do every single day of their lives to make sure their children are cared for, protected, and safe.  It is amazing how hard they work to make sure their children grow up to have respect and love for others.

Even as my own mother turns 89 this month – I can still say that if I hear my name called out with the middle name included – I am probably in some type of trouble :).

I have been so fortunate in my life to be surrounded by not only an incredible mom – but incredible women that I admire and look up to.  All of my four older sisters (all mothers of course) are some of the most hard-working and wonderful people you could ever meet.  They too of course love to garden – are all great cooks – and have raised wonderful families of their own.  Mary’s mom is right up there as well in my book – raising 4 wonderful children, and always taking time out to proudly talk about our little farm to anyone and everyone she can like only a proud mom can do.

And then of course there is Mary. This past week – as I went out of town for a few days on a business trip – she not only found the time to make meals for the kids, work her full-time job and keep the home and farm running smoothly – but also to somehow squeeze in the time and effort to plant nearly all of our tomatoes, peppers and the remainder of our spring crops in the garden – all because the weather was perfect and she was worried this weekend’s rain would set us back. Amazing!

I have always loved the saying “If you want something done, give it to someone who is already busy and it will get done. – maybe that should be “If you want something done, give the task to a mom and it will get done!

So here is to all the wonderful moms out there today – enjoy your day – you deserve it!!!
