Apple Crisp Recipe – Gluten and Dairy Free

It’s apple season!  Although our own apple trees at Old World Garden Farms are too young to produce fruit, we continue to visit family, friends, and our local orchards to pick apples in order to make applesauce, apple pie filling, apple desserts, and of course, just to eat as a snack.

We have always used my Grandmother’s apple crisp recipe which included flour, sugar, cinnamon and butter. But this year, with guests on their way, we had to come up with a new recipe to meet their medical and dietary needs.  We needed a gluten and dairy free recipe that tasted just as good as any other apple crisp dessert.

With the combination of gluten flour and almond meal, in addition to dairy-free sticks of butter, we were able to pull off the perfect recipe for everyone to enjoy!  And of course, adding vanilla ice cream is as easy as buying a soy based version in order to experience the true tradition of this classic fall dessert!
