The Farm House Photo Tour Update – 45 Days After Move In

The Farm House Photo Tour Update – November, 2016.

It has been just 45 days since “move-in-day” at the new farm house. It’s hard to believe that in just 7 short months, the hill overlooking the farm has gone from a grass-covered space, to the place where we now call home.

Our house remains a work in progress. The plan all along was to get the structure “livable” by late fall, and complete the finishing touches “in residence” through the winter months. So far, it seems to be working well.

Although it can be a bit tough at times, the benefits of finally living at our farm have far outweighed the small inconvenience of living in an active construction zone.

One thing is for sure – we cannot believe the freedom “living smaller” has brought to our lives. At just 1054 square foot of living space, our little farmhouse still has the space for everything we could possible need. I think we can both honestly say that we have not missed a single square foot of the space we had in our old house. We certainly don’t miss the extra cost and time it took to maintain it!

We hope you enjoy our farm house photo tour below – we still have a long way to go, but each week, and with every project crossed off the list – we get a little closer!  For more info on the house, see: The Simple House Project

The Farm House Photo Tour Update – November, 2016.

The house and garage as they looked at the top of the hill in mid-November. It’s hard to believe that just seven months ago, it was nothing more than an empty field.

The view of the back porch. We are finishing up the stairs now, with the railings to follow soon.

An up close look at two of the LED Edison bulbs that hang over the kitchen island. We have used the industrial look of the bulbs throughout the house. They may look old, but the LED lights are super efficient, and give off plenty of light to the open space.

We installed the kitchen back splash this past week in the kitchen. We opted for groutless mini metal subway tiles to help tie in the galvanized interior ceilings and stainless appliances.

The shower is finally complete – that was a must for moving in!

We completed the knee walls in the loft in mid-September. We will hang sliding barn doors for easy access. The knee walls have been a perfect solution to adding all important storage space to the floor plan.

The built in wine rack area below the stair case. Made from rough sawn pine, shiplap scraps, and a 24″ wide live edge piece of local cherry.

The view of the main living area from the loft. We still need to add the rolling library ladder and picture wall to the Scrabble Wall.

The propeller fans are now installed on the back porch. We love the unique look they give to the back porch area.

Although we won’t be able to put many of our landscaping plants in the ground till next spring, we were able to install all of the rock edging and beds around the house. We will complete the walkways with pea gravel to match the other walking paths around the barn and garden.

No, you are not seeing double. A view of the farm and a painting of the farm from our back porch. One of my favorite photos of all time.
