Mid-Summer Garden Photos – It’s Harvest Time In Full Color

Mid-Summer Garden Photos from Old World Garden Farms. Summertime is here, and that means our Raised Row Garden is bursting at the seams with fresh produce!

Bees helping out to pollinate our zucchini. TAs you can see behind the flower, they have been doing a great job!

From fresh cabbage to cauliflower, cucumbers, onions, green peppers, beans, tomatoes and more, it seems each day brings something new to the dinner table.

The summer season is a magical time for gardeners. It is simply amazing to watch how quickly things grow and change. A tiny bloom turns into a full-blown zucchini in mere days. The popcorn stalks seem to grow while you walk by. And tiny green tomatoes turn plump and red almost before your very eyes.

As we do every year about this time, we thought we would share a few of our garden photos to celebrate summer.

Here’s a look around our little Raised Row Garden, in full color. If you want to know more about raised row garden, you can check out our article : The Secrets of Raised Row Gardening

Cauliflower – The fresh, crisp taste of home-grown cauliflower is hard to beat. But so is the simple beauty and elegance of the plants as they grow and mature.

Popcorn – The popcorn has grown leaps and bounds in the past few weeks and is now beginning to tassel. Popcorn is one of our favorite crops to grow, and the flavor simply can’t be beat!

Sweet Potato Crop In Crates.  Yes, believe it or not, there is a crate underneath all of that growth. We grow both our potatoes and sweet potatoes in crates. It makes them easy to plant, maintain and harvest. At harvest time, you simply lift up the crates and the potatoes roll out from the soil. This year’s sweet potato crop should be a great one!

Basket of Produce. The pickings from a single day of harvest in the garden. By late summer, the baskets will be filled with bushels of tomatoes each day. But for now, this is more than enough to keep us in fresh food!

Hops. This is the first year we have grown hops, and we love the way they vine up over our fence row. The blooms are just now starting to turn into small seed cones. The cones should be a great look in the fall as they mature on the vines.

Chili Chili. Our chili-chili peppers are now on full display. These beautiful ornamental peppers are perfect for adding heat to salsa and all kinds of dishes. They also look great planted in the garden, landscape, or in hanging baskets.

The Raised Rows. We love our Raised Row Garden, not only is it easy to maintain, but it really does produce a lot of food in a small space. Here is a look at the tomato and pepper rows maturing in mid-summer.

Cabbage. A full head of cabbage ready to be harvested. Fresh cabbage is perfect for homemade slaw, soups and more. We plant an early crop to harvest now, and as you will see in the 2nd picture, a second crop now for fall harvest. The second planting is red cabbage.
