Caramel apple pie takes the delicious flavor of classic apple pie to the next level. Imagine taking a bite of warm apple pie with a drizzle of caramel on top. That is exactly what you will get when you sink your teeth into this delicious dessert.
This is one of the easiest apple pies to make. It doesn’t require lemon juice, dabs of butter to be applied to the top of the apples or even an egg wash. Just mix your ingredients, pour your apples into the pie crust and top!
Just like any pie that you bake, you can add foil to the edges of the crust to prevent burning. We have learned over the years that the easiest way to do this without burning your hands is to cut the foil prior to the pie going into the oven. We use a full sheet and cut out the center of the pie, leaving the edges covered with the foil. Using this method allows you to have one big sheet of foil rather than small, rolled up pieces that you are trying to fit on each curve of the dish. It’s a huge time saver that helps protect your fingers!

INSTRUCTIONS:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F
1. Combine butter, white sugar, brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and salt in a small saucepan over medium heat stirring constantly. Bring up to a boil and then immediately remove from heat and set aside.
2. Roll out half the pie crust to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place bottom crust in pie plate and pour in apple slices.
3. Roll out top crust into a 10-inch circle. Cut into 8, one inch wide strips with a sharp paring knife or pizza cutter. Weave the strips, one at a time, into a lattice pattern. Fold the ends of the lattice strips behind the edge of the bottom crust and crimp to seal.
4. Pour the mixture over top of the pie, coating the lattice, and allowing any remaining sauce to drizzle through the crust.
5. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F, and bake until the crust is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling (35 to 40 minutes).
Allow to cool before slicing to allow the filling to firm up.
Enjoy!
