It’s hard to believe the words as we write them out for today’s article – but just nineteen short months after starting construction, the new farm at Old World Garden is ready to host a few visitors!
We are so thrilled to have so many of the projects completed – from the house, trial garden, cabins, flowerbeds, outdoor barn pavilion and courtyard – to nearly 3 miles of trails through the 43 acres of woods, we are excited to finally answer “YES!” to so many of the questions that have been coming to us ever since we started the new farm venture.
Questions like:
- Will you be hosting OWG Farm to Table dinners again like you did at your old farm?
- Are you going to have an open house and offer tours of the farm?
- Will you be renting out your little cabin house in the woods?
- Can people stay at the “get-away” sleeping cabins for a weekend?
- What about hosting wedding or special events?
- And of course – will you offer your garden, cooking and canning classes again?
The Chaos Of Building – The Farm At Old World Garden
From the moment the first piece of lumber was set in place in early January of 2022, we dreamed of being able to someday create a space that could celebrate gardening, cooking and the great outdoors. And even more, we wanted to be able to someday share it with others.
Our first order of business last year was to finish enough of the farm to host its first and only event of 2022 – our daughter’s wedding in September of last year.
Last spring and summer was a blur for sure. I don’t think either of us slept much trying to coordinate the new farmhouse, cabins and a shower house. Especially since we were also trying to turn a dilapidated old barn into an event space for the wedding!
But some way and some how, it all came together. And just in time for a fall wedding day that saw the farm be the perfect backdrop for some 200 guests. It certainly didn’t hurt we were lucky enough to have it be sunny and a near perfect 78° too!
Fulfilling A Dream
For so many reasons, the day was so incredibly special. The once in a lifetime chance to walk my daughter the down the aisle. Being able to have all of our children home on the farm. And of course, being able to share it all with wonderful friends and family.
But there was also something else we just couldn’t help but smile about. The farm came alive that weekend! The bride, groom and the wedding party filled the cabins and farm with life for the entire weekend.
With the ceremony taking place on the front lawn and the reception taking place in the courtyard and party barn area, it was incredible to see all of the spaces become special. And it made us realize how much we enjoy activity and being able to share the farm with others. And it was then and there we decided to make it happen!
Opening Up The Farm At Old World Garden
After taking a few weeks to relax and recover after the wedding, we began to think about the farm’s future. More to the point, how could we open up the farm to share it more and still maintain the life we have grown to love here.
To be honest, we built the farm and cabins with the intention of using them for family weekends, special events and perhaps to host a few of our gardening classes each spring. And those are certainly all things we will be doing in the future!
But that leaves a lot of spring, summer and fall days that our cabins and farm buildings sit empty. So we thought – why not open them up for others to enjoy!
After all, one of these days in the long distant future we are going to hang up our writing, blogging and podcasting ways. And when we do, we simply want to enjoy our farm and allow others to as well. And perhaps creating a little farm “get away” would be just the retirement project Mary and I would someday enjoy most!
The Farm At Old World Garden – Come Tour, Visit & Stay!
One thing is for sure, we love people, food, conversation and activity. And I can pretty much say for certain that will never change.
With that in mind, we have decided to open up our cabin house and sleeping cabins for limited rentals this year – and host an Open House sometime late this fall that will feature tours of the farm, garden, trails and more. (more to come on that later)
We then will open the farm up for more events early next spring, including garden and cooking classes, monthly Farm to Table dinners, tours and more. For us, it is extremely important to keep it simple, fun and manageable.
For that reason we are starting now by offering two options for stays for this summer and fall – our little Cabin In The Woods house, and our Garden Cottage Getaway sleeping cabin. Both are now available to rent on Airbnb and will soon be on VRBO. For those interested in checking it out, we have included links below in the descriptions.
The good news is there is a lot more coming. We are in the midst of installing a pond and overlook pavilion now. In addition, there will be a few more sleeping cabins as well in the near future. For now, here is a look at what is available.

The Pine Ridge Cabin – “The Little Cabin In The Woods”
Ever since posting our walk through video of our little cabin house located at the back of the farm, we have been inundated with requests to rent it out. And with now over 3+million views, the word inundated couldn’t be more accurate.
Our Cabin In The Woods Video
The Pine Ridge cabin is nestled on the edge of the woods. It offers a great private space to get away and enjoy nature all in a woodsy setting.
Located just 2 minutes off of I-70, the cabin features a fully equipped kitchen. An electric stove, microwave and full size refrigerator allow full meals to be made easily. With a full queen bed in the loft bedroom upstairs and a pull out full size sofa bed in the main living area, it can sleep a maximum of (4) adults.
There is a spacious covered back porch with a gas grill and outdoor dining table for four. There is also a fire pit area outside all with views of the wooded ridge below. Wood is provided for free for the fire pit. The property includes hiking trails that are open to guests.

The Garden Cottage Sleeping Cabin – The Farm At Old World Garden
The Garden Cottage will be the first of a few sleeping cabins we will offer for overnight stays at the farm. We designed each of our sleeping cabins to be getaway spaces where visitors can have their own space and place to enjoy inside and out – and yet still have access to walk about and enjoy the farm.
The Garden Cottage is a bit special in that it is located directly in front of our trial garden at Old World Garden Farm. The cabin offers a comfortable queen size bed, couch and sitting area and a small dining table for two inside. It also has plug in A/C and a small (dorm style) refrigerator and freezer.
Details On The Sleeping Cabin
In addition to a single entry door, there are a set of double doors that open up to a small patio area with two chairs and park style grill. There are 2 private, full size spacious bathrooms guests can use. They are located just a short walk down a gravel path with on-demand hot water.
Behind the garden and just twenty feet from the patio area there is the garden outdoor dining and fire pit area. This area is also open to guests. The space is lit in the evening hours with rope lighting for quite the peaceful setting. It also happens to be where we will host future Farm to Table dinners!
