There is one reason the lines at coffee shops are so long these days – Pumpkin Spice Latte!
It seems as soon as Autumn arrives, the crowd goes wild for the arrival of this specialty drink. Although I absolutely love the soft and creamy taste of a warm pumpkin spice latte on a brisk cool morning, what I don’t love is the cost and time spent in line at the local coffee shop.
So this year, I am saving lots of cash and precious time by making these at home! The best part is that we have all the ingredients we need in our own kitchen.
So here’s to another year of Pumpkin Spice Lattes – for a fraction of the cost!
Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
Fresh brewed bold coffee
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
2 teaspoon honey (or substitute agave nectar)
2/3 cup milk
Additional pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon for topping (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. While the coffee brews, stir the pumpkin pie spice into the honey or agave nectar until completely blended. Set aside.
2. Pour the milk into a microwave-safe bowl. Keep the bowl slightly tilted to the side, so that the milk is gathered more towards one side. Using a wire whisk vigorously whisk the milk in the bowl for about 2-3 minutes until the milk is frothy. *Alternative method – place the milk in a quart size mason jar with the lid and shake for 2-3 minutes.
3. Microwave the milk in the bowl, or jar with the lid removed, on high for 8-10 seconds. You should expect the milk to puff up. *If you prefer not to use the microwave, add milk to a small saucepan on medium heat. Stir constantly and remove when milk is warm.
4. To serve the latte, pour the hot coffee into a mug and stir in the honey/agave-spice mixture until completely dissolved. Top with the hot milk, spooning the thick foam on top.
If desired, add a dash of additional pumpkin pie spice or ground cinnamon on top.
Serve immediately.
Enjoy!
