We have always wanted to have a big barn sale event at the farm. And now, our wish is going to come true. And you could say much bigger than we ever imagined!
If you happen to be nearby in July– you’re invited! {NOTE : The barn sale has been postponed until sometime in August. There is simply too much to prepare to have in July – stay tuned we will update with a new time and date!}
A few years back, as we prepared for a move from our traditional suburban house to our 1054 square foot “Simple House” at the farm, we went through one of the most incredible downsizing tasks ever. We called it the 365 One-A-Day Project.
Every day, for an entire year, we donated, gave away, sold, recycled, or at last resort, threw away one excess possession. To this day, it is without a doubt still the most cathartic experience we have gone through. It taught us that we certainly didn’t need all of the things that we had accumulated in our traditional “suburban” home.
We had dining room and living room furniture we never used, a garage full of “stuff”, and hundreds of “things” we simply never used, but kept. Eliminating those items made the downsizing move to the farm a breeze. See : 365 / One-A-Day Project
Fast forward to today, and although the plan worked beautifully, we are ready to downsize even more with the move to Tennessee. And when your moving quickly from an entire little farm, it calls for a bit more advanced version of the 365 plan. The answer – an old-fashioned barn sale!
We are so excited as we plan the next chapter of our life in Tennessee, and can’t wait to share the details over the coming months and years. We have learned so much in downsizing from our last move to the farm. Hopefully, we can take what we have learned in the process, and create an even more simple home and set-up to enjoy life as we grow older. See : The Farm For Sale
Here is what we know for sure. Our next home will be even smaller, and it will be built with a 100% low-maintenance plan in mind. That means no big yard to mow, and building with forever materials. Everything we love and enjoy will be built on the smallest lot possible. Less space, less maintenance.
It is a simple plan : a small house, a small area for the garden, and the rest of the space turned into an outdoor living area. With no space wasted.
There is an overwhelming beauty in simplicity. We want to be able to enjoy the space, but still have time to travel, write and talk gardening and food.
We have several designs we are working on, and we can’t wait to share them in the coming months. One thing is for sure, much like with the simple house, we gain so much from everyone’s feedback and suggestions.
So, now back to the barn sale…
The Barn Sale At The Farm
In the near future, we will host a one day barn sale at Old World Garden Farms. We figured why not make a fun day out of it. So, we will put on a big pot of soup over the open fire for all to enjoy, put on a little music, and downsize away!
Up for sale is nearly everything from the house, barn and farm except the few things we need to take with us. That includes benches, chairs, tables, farm tables, sawhorses, some tools, furniture, kitchen items, wall hangings, wine racks, barn doors, barn wood, extra garden tools, and more.
As we move closer to the day of the sale, we will post a comprehensive list of items for those interested..
One thing is for sure, we are looking forward to having a great day downsizing for our next move to an even more simple life.
