As of today – the new-look Old World Garden website is officially up and running!

Today’s Sunday Farm Update marks the first article to be published on the new server, and although we still have a bit of tweaking to do here and there, we are excited to have the new theme in place!

Great Big Home + Garden Show
Now that the site is up – we can get back to what we love – gardening, cooking and diy!

Hopefully, you’ll notice a much cleaner look and feel to the entire site – with added features such as an easy-print recipe button, simple navigation tabs at the top of each page, and a clean white background to allow for easy viewing.

We still have a bit of tweaking to do here and there, along with a few more new features to put in place over the coming weeks – but we are happy to have the move complete!

If you get a chance today – head over and check it out on our main page at www.oldworldgardenfarms.com and let us know what you think!

More than anything else – we can now get back to doing what we love most – living and writing about the farm and a self-sufficient, diy lifestyle!

Speaking At The Great Big Home + Garden Show in Cleveland

Now on to some REALLY exciting news!

Great Big Home + Garden ShowWe have been invited by Weaver Barns to be their main speaker at the upcoming Great Big Home + Garden Show at the IX Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

As many of you know, Weaver Barns will be building the entire shell of our home at the farm this summer. For the show, they will be building one of their model homes right inside of the facility  – complete with a chicken coop, chickens, garden shed and an outdoor Any Age / Anywhere Garden that they let us design!  It’s a really neat process to see them build the home in such a quick time frame. In fact, you can see how they built last year’s home (our model) here on a time-lapse video :  Weaver Barns Cedar Brooke Time Lapse Video

We will be speaking on Friday and Saturday each weekend of the show (Feb 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th) on everything from gardening, raising chickens, canning and more.

For those that live close – we would love for you to come out and see us! Stay tuned to our Sunday Updates in the coming weeks.

Happy Gardening!

I like the clean look of the new site, too. As someone else commented, the dark brown comment boxes do make it a little harder to read the print. Lightening them up a bit will make it easier on the eyes. One other suggestion–maybe you could make YOUR comments boxes a different color? That would make it easier to see which comments are yours. Keep up the great work! 🙂

I really like your new site!! I have a question, hopefully you can answer. For the size of house you are getting, how much did you pay for it?? We are looking to downsize and I would like to know a ball park figure, thank you.

Thank you on the compliment to the new site. We hope that the fresh clean look is easy for everyone to navigate. We are still in the process of figuring out the building process and cost estimations and we are planning to do as much as we can ourselves to keep the cost down. We will be posting about the entire building process and the budget as we get closer to breaking ground this spring. Of course, the cost will vary greatly on where you live. We will keep you posted! Thank you for following along! Jim and Mary

I’m a fan of the slideshow header on the main page. It tells us what your all about in a handful of beautiful pictures. Good luck with the build in the coming months and remember that everything happens for a reason so try to stay calm when life happens!

Your new site looks great, and I viewed the video of the Cedarcreek home being built, and it looks amazing! We are considering building in the near future as well, and wanted something with an open plan to it. Have fun at the fair 🙂

I miss the photos of the old home site, too. Change is necessary, but this feels sparse and a bit too clean for me. I love your recipes, though, and will still remain a loyal reader. Sigh!

Mostly I am so proud of both of you. Thank you for all the work you do and for your generous spirit. We are truly blessed that you share the good and the not-so-perfect about homesteading and growing a productive garden. Thank you — thank you, and blessings for a prosperous year.

Hi Leslie In order to have more information on our site that is easy to find we had to eliminate the background of the farm. However, we will continue to post pictures of the farm regularly through our posts. Thank you for the encouraging and kind words and we are thankful for you following along in our journey. I am a little home-sick for the photos of the farm from the old website but, the black on white typeface is wonderful and very easy to read! Is that red popcorn in the middle photo up top on the new page? Congrats on it all coming together. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback and yes, although we don’t have the main background farm photo that was on our old site, we thought this format would be an easier to read version for most people. Yes, that is popcorn pictured in the middle photo – it is called Strawberry Popcorn and we have grown it over the past several years at the farm. Thanks for continuing to follow along! Jim and Mary
